WHO IS ROYCE KRISPIE?
ACTOR/PRODUCER/ENGINEER/WRITER/VOCALIST/ARTIST AND CONSULTATION.
Royce Krispie represents the Midwest and has had a heavy influence from the west coast, after moving to Los Angles, Ca to Kansas City, Mo as a kid. He also moved to Seattle, Wa in his late teenager years to early 20's for 4 years, and discovered the pride that west coast had for home based studios and recording. After moving back again in 2005 he found the need to continue his passion for music and put a spin with Mid west.
Growing up in the inner city in the 80s Era and having a passion for music and cars, he would always hear the heavy bass playing from Cutlass's, Monte Carlos, Regals, and Box Chevy Caprices. This said to be the prime reason for wanting to become a producer. As a kid living in California with his parents he would hear Ice-T for the first time in while he was in the hit of his career. Royce said, "Ice-T had a voice of authority and he made the beats pop." He went on to say after moving to Kansas City, Mo a huge part of the west coast never left him. Royce said "Kansas City didn't have beaches and best weather, but it did have a strong roots to Soul, Jazz and Barbecue." Kansas City has always been a city of Jazz and R&B. "There is a lot of talent here."-Royce K.
At 12 y/o he was discovered by Bay Area and Kansas City rap pioneer Deco-D, who stayed around the corner from him on 27th and Lockridge. One day Royce jumped on the high-school bus purposely to rap for him. "I heard from the other kids, that on his bus the high schoolers be rapping on the bus." He got on the bus and the freestyle session started. "I started flowing and the crowd heard me and that took my nervous feeling away." Deco- D said, "Lil Dude, when we get off this bus I'm taking you to the studio". "I had never been to a studio in my life at that point"-Royce K. They recorded a verse on Cassette, and he played in his room (At a Low Level). "I didn't want my Mom or Step Dad to hear it, because I was cussing"-Royce K. He goes on to say that his Step Father who passed away in 2006, heard the tape and was impressed and wanted to hear it over and over again. Christmas was approaching and his Mom asked him what did he want for Christmas? Before he say, his Step Father blurted out, "A mixer, microphone, Receiver, 2 double cassette decks and a stack of blank tapes." Royce said the rest was history.
Later on he started making beats on a Casio keyboard and recording it to a tape deck track by track playing it manually. Then layering it and setting levels with the over dub. "It was hard hell to make them beats, no click to keep the tempo.... Just making a click with my mouth and perfecting the pause button."-Royce K. Later after the tracks are made, he would loop them and stretch them to make them longer. "I knew it had to be a better way, im thankful for that time tho.... It made me, that much more innovative."-Royce K. It was when he attended middle school and he was able to get his hands on a Roland-RK Mk11, he began to feel like a real producer. "It was complicated at first, I didn't want to read the directions.... Just turn that hit on and hit the pads". -Royce K. He also gained access to a Roland Xp-50 and was able to layer tracks to DAT Tapes easier. "It was simple beats, but they were fire at the time". Royce K.
From Beat making to recording and learning how mix, Royce Krispie has been seasoned to the craft of production. Stay tuned more to come in the Bio.
